ORANGE COUNTY – County health officials are urging and recommending that all persons, regardless of vaccination status, recommends that “ALL PERSONS wear a mask when indoors in public, in accordance with new CDC guidelines.

On Thursday, August 12, County Executive Steve Neuhaus and Commissioner of Health Dr. Irina Gelman issued the public health alert due to the presence of the Delta Variant of the COVID-19 virus in Orange County.

In addition to the mask recommendation, the statement said “Cases of COVID-19 are on the rise in Orange County. As of August 8, 2021, Orange County’s transmission rate was classified as “high” by the CDC, up from “substantial” two weeks ago, and “moderate” only two months ago.”

County officials are taking precautions based on recent data.  The average daily count of new COVID-19 cases over the last seven days, according to county officials, has increased 115% from the previous week.

Approximately 50% of the total population in Orange County is fully vaccinated, and leaves the county vulnerable to continued disease transmission, according to Neuhaus.

With the Delta variant present in Orange County, officials say that it is imperative that health care providers encourage and residents adhere to the CDC Disease Prevention Guidelines including, but not limited to wearing masks when in public and vaccination among all eligible residents to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

County residents can find information about the vaccine and register for an appointment here.
