TOWN OF WALLKILL – Two Middletown residents were killed when their 2004 Toyota Sienna collided with a 2005 Ford Escort near exit 119 in the Town of Wallkill shortly after 7 p.m. on August 4.
The driver of the Toyota and one of the nine other people in the vehicle, were ejected and killed.
State Police identified the victims as the driver, 48-year-old Vivarcampoverde, and passenger Maria Abrigo, 36, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the Sienna was traveling in the passing lane of Route 17 parallel to the Ford that was in the driving lane. The vehicles collided causing the Ford to leave the roadway, strike an earth embankment and overturn.
The Toyota entered the center median, struck the guiderail, ad overturned before coming to rest on the westbound median.
Two of the nine passengers in the Vivarcampoverde vehicle were flown from the scene to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla due to the nature of their injuries.
The remaining for passengers were transported by ambulance to Garnet Health Medical Center with service injuries.
The driver of the Ford Escape, Anthony Jones, 24, of Walden, was also transported to Garnet Heath and treated for minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
