WHITE PLAINS – A woman found dead in Mount Vernon over 30 years ago has finally been positively identified.

Through the use of DNA testing and investigative genealogy, the victim formerly known as “Jane Doe Mount Vernon,” has been identified as Veronica Wiederhold.

Now the next step in the investigation is to determine who killed her.

On February 14, 1988, just before noon, in the vicinity of 22 Carleton Avenue she was found dead and nude on the street by Mount Vernon Police.

She was identified by the newly created Westchester County District Attorney’s Office Cold Case Bureau in partnership with the FBI, Mount Vernon Police and the Westchester Department of Laboratories and Research.

Wiederhold was last seen by her family in Brooklyn in late 1987 before she was found dead. She currently has family in New York City and out-of-state who have been notified of the Cold Case Bureau’s identification.

Now that her identity is known, the DA’s Office is asking anyone with information to contact them at 914-995-TIPS.
