Witnesses refuse to cooperate with police in recent Poughkeepsie shooting

POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie police are investigating a Saturday morning shooting that sent a victim to the hospital for emergency surgery.  The 3 a.m. incident on July 31 occurred on Church Street, according to the City of Poughkeepsie PBA.

When officers arrived at the location, witnesses told police that the victim had been transported to the hospital in a private vehicle.  City 911 dispatchers determined that the victim was at MidHudson Regional Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back.  Hospital officials told the dispatcher that the victim was being prepared for surgery.

Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians responded to the Church Street location to interview witnesses and collect evidence.  According to the PBA, multiple witnesses in the vicinity of the incident refused to cooperate with the investigation.  Several shell casings were collected at the scene and logged as evidence.

The identity and condition of the patient have not been released.
