MONTICELLO – A Village of Liberty man was sentenced in Sullivan County Court on Thursday to 22 years to life in state prison for killing his girlfriend, with whom he lived with their children.

Cedric Clarkson, 50, previously admitted that he killed Jailyn Flecha, 30, last November by beating her with a weapon. After the murder, Clarkson moved Flecha’s body into a shed behind the home.

As part of his guilty plea on May 28, Clarkson waived his trial and appellate rights.

“This defendant devastated our community by viciously killing the mother of his children,” said District Attorney Meagan Galligan. “I thank Jailyn’s family for standing up for her in court and stepping up to care for and raise her children.”

The DA said the victim “leaves behind a legacy of love and friendship that cannot be extinguished even by this defendant’s callous crime.” She said her office “will continue to work with Jailyn’s family toward ensuring that they, and our community, are protected from this defendant for the rest of his natural life.”

Galligan credited Assistant DA Steven Goldberg, Village of Liberty Police, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, State Police Forensic Identification Unit and her office’s police investigators for their work on the case.
