POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie Police are investigating a late-night armed robbery that was reported at approximately 9:50 p.m. Wednesday night.  Sources say that the 911 call reported that five black men robbed a person near the intersection of Main Street and Jewett Avenue, and at least one handgun was displayed by the perpetrators.

A witness in the vicinity told Mid-Hudson News that he encountered five black men running north on North White Street (north of the arterial) between 10 p.m. and 10:15 p.m.  “I was walking south on North Main and five ‘middle-school-age’ black boys ran past me running north,” said the witness.  The witness declined to provide their name to the Mid-Hudson News reporter for fear of retribution.

A police K-9 search was initiated shortly after the alleged crime occurred.

Police officials say that the investigation is in the early stages and no additional information was released Wednesday night.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the police at 845-451-7577.
