POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department is participating in National Night Out 2021 after COVID prevented the successful event from happening last year. It is taking place on Tuesday, August 3, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Poughkeepsie City Hall.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships as well as neighborhood camaraderie.
At a recent meeting, City of Poughkeepsie Police Detective and School, Resource Officer Karen Zirbel said, “I think it is most important now more than ever to bring together this community in the wake of all of this violence and the year that we have had.”
Zirbel is seeking other area police and fire departments to join with the city’s first responders to provide more opportunities for the attendees to interact with. “We need to work on what’s going on together,” said the detective. “All systems need to collaborate and show the community members that we are collectively working on making efforts to make positive change, especially for our young people.”
Civic organizations and other vendors that are interested in participating in the event can email Zirbel here for details.
