NEWBURGH – Newburgh City officials want new blood in the leadership of the police department and that will include a new position of police commissioner.

The city advertised for candidates for commissioner and a new police chief and Mayor Torrance Harvey told Mid-Hudson News on Wednesday that they have chosen candidates for each post.

“The new police chief is from the Albany area and the new commissioner is from the New York City/Westchester area,” he said.

The mayor did not reveal their identities but said they should assume their roles in mid-to-late August.
