NEW LEBANON – An alleged suicidal woman who was shot by a state trooper has been arrested on felony charges.  Sarah Craddock, 40, was shot in the abdomen on July 15 after pointing a long gun in the direction of State Police.

The day after the shooting Craddock was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.  She was virtually arraigned before the Town of Greenport justice court.

Craddock was ordered remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail pending her release from the hospital.

Mid-Hudson News reported last week that troopers had responded to a New Lebanon residence where they encountered Craddock, who was reported to be suicidal.  As troopers attempted to deescalate the situation, Craddock raised a long gun and pointed it at the police.

Trooper Nathaniel Chernewsky fired a blast from his division-issued shotgun, striking Craddock in the abdomen.  Troopers provided first aid until medics could transport the woman to Albany Medical Center.
