Developer Andrew Leider reviews plans for his latest project in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN – The owner of the 3 1/2 -story former Classy Leather building in Middletown has been given the green light to convert the former manufacturing and commercial building into 54 luxury apartments in the downtown area of the city.

Attorney and developer Andrew Leider said 32 of the apartments will be two-bedrooms and 12 will be one-bedrooms. Commercial space will be available on the ground floor. Tenants could include a café, he said.

Leider sees his project as one of the game changers as Middletown continues its renaissance.

“This will have a modern, rental building that will be at a new level. We have three college-types; you have SUNY Orange, the medical school at Touro, and we have the art school,” he said.

Leider said the apartments will be ideal for professors and for students to share.

The entrepreneur bought the building for $4.4 million and anticipates spending $9 million in redeveloping it.

He anticipates the project to be completed and ready for occupancy in early to mid-2023.
