"Bryan's" Airbnb listing

LIVINGSTON MANOR – Airbnb has announced the most hospitable host in the entire state of New York, and it is a Sullivan County getaway.  Bryan, no last name given, from Livingston Manor, has a listing under Private Charming Country Guesthouse Close to Town. Livingston Manor is a small hamlet within Sullivan County and adjacent to Catskill Park.

The recognition stems from the Airbnb release of a wider report highlighting the most hospitable host in each of the 50 states. These outstanding hosts, according to Airbnb, have achieved the most 100% 5-star reviews in the categories of Cleanliness, Check-In, and Communication in their respective states — with a minimum of 100 reviews.

Bryan has had over 150 reviews at his guesthouse– without ever once getting less than a 5-star review in the benchmark hospitality and safety categories. There were six hosts in New York who achieved this standard, but Bryan had the most number of reviews, which is how he achieved the top designation.

Upon being informed of this distinction, Brian said that he and his husband moved up-state full-time about five years ago and started hosting right away. They wanted their guesthouse to be a weekend home to get away from the city. The listing is the space above their garage that they converted into an apartment.

Bryan’s husband cleans apartments for a living, so he knows a thing or two about how to clean a home. Bryan is a potter and has stocked the kitchen with mugs that he made. They purposely do not have a TV in the listing so that guests can truly escape. They also have chickens and will share fresh eggs with their guests when they have enough.

“The goal wasn’t to create a business,” said Bryan. “The goal was to make our place available for people who wanted to get out of the city.”
