NEW CITY – The Rockland County Legislature is exploring the possibility of a full county property tax exemption for veterans totally disabled due to their military service.

“These men and women put themselves on the line by choosing to defend our country and were disabled as part of their service,” Legislator Aron Wieder said. “The least we can do for our great warriors, who have paid a tremendous price on behalf of our great country and our great democracy, is to give them a break on their county taxes.”

The exemption would only apply to the county portion of a property owner’s tax bill. It would only apply to veterans who are considered totally disabled by the Veterans’ Administration.

“As we prepare to celebrate the 245th birthday of the greatest nation in the world, let us acknowledge in a very real way, the sacrifices paid by our military men and women, since the days of the American Revolution, by today showing our gratitude through this tax exemption,” Wieder said.
