NEW CITY – The state Parole Board has granted Robert McCain release from prison after serving time for the October 28, 1980 murder of 16-year-old Paula Bohovesky in Pearl River.

Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Walsh said the victim was “an honor student and aspiring actress.” She was beaten, sexually assaulted, and stabbed to death by McCain and Richard LaBarbera.

LaBarbera, a former Pearl River resident, was granted parole one year ago and is under community supervision in New York City. McCain also faces lifetime community supervision.

“The Parole Board turned their backs on Paula’s family today,” Walsh said. “I can only imagine the pain and suffering that the family is reliving today after hearing the latest news. We must expect more from the parole board, than just letting killers like these men, enjoy freedom as the Bohovesky family yearns to see their daughter just one more time,” the DA said.
