GOSHEN – A City of Newburgh man pled guilty in Orange County Court on Tuesday to manslaughter in the June 2020 stabbing death of another Newburgh man.

Tavares Stackhouse, 39, faces up to 21 years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced in September.

On the afternoon of June 27, 2020, after a brief altercation involving the victim and another person, Stackhouse followed the victim to the entrance of the Newburgh Aquatic Center at the corner of Route 9W and Washington Street, where Stackhouse stabbed the victim several times killing him.

“Senseless violence on our streets cannot be tolerated, and my office will do everything that we can to hold accountable those who commit acts of violence, with knives, with guns, or with no weapons at all,” said District Attorney David Hoovler.
