GOSHEN – Orange County Legislator Michael Anagnostakis retained the Republican line in the November general election by defeating challenger Patricia Maher in the primary.

When absentee ballots were counted on Wednesday, the incumbent who calls himself “an independent-minded Republican,” beat Maher by a 72.3 percent to 27.7 percent margin.

Anagnostakis said residents of his district in Montgomery and the Town of Newburgh “rejected the baseless attacks against me.”

He said the primary election “should be a wake-up call to Republican insiders who have been so eager to follow the dishonorable and incompetent Steve Brescia – of IDA infamy – who initiated this failed effort to oust me for the ‘crime’ of fighting his corruption.”

Anagnostakis said he doesn’t care “what party the corruption against the taxpayers comes from: I’m always going to stand up to it.”
