POUGHKEEPSIE – A steering committee has been named by Poughkeepsie City officials in connection with updating the Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Codes to provide a strong vision and guidance for future growth and development in the city.
The city’s Comprehensive Plan was last updated in 1998, and it has been over 40 years since the city’s zoning ordinance was comprehensively reviewed and updated. A key goal of the city is to integrate principles of sustainability and climate change adaptation within the city’s blueprint for growth. The city also aims to simplify and reduce the number of zoning districts and modernize regulations in order to address current and future development trends.
The city is working with consultants czb LLC, in partnership with Ingalls Planning & Design, and has set a 16-month timeline that will include data analysis, public engagement, development of a comprehensive plan and updates to the zoning codes.
Updating the city’s comprehensive plan is funded in part by the Climate Smart Communities Grant Program, the Environmental Protection Fund through the State Department of Environmental Conservation.
The project website, PK4Keeps.org, features links to the steering committee, a public survey and other key information. “We encourage the public to go to the website, to use it as a valuable resource and to participate in the first online survey,” said Planning Director Natalie Quinn. “Public participation will be essential to reaching our findings, and we are excited to begin the process.”
The 21-member steering committee represents various facets of the city, including the business, health, housing, religious, and environmental communities.
