MONTGOMERY – The community in Montgomery has banded together to urge the State Division of Parole not to grant parole to Juan Peinado, the man convicted of killing 12-year-old Danny Meyer of Montgomery 25 years ago.

The lobbying effort to keep Peinado behind bars is being led by Town Supervisor Brian Maher.

“I truly believe that anyone who brutally murders a 12-year-old child should never be set free,” he said on Friday.

Maher has created an online petition calling on the state agency not to grant Peinado parole. The board is expected to conduct a hearing on the issue in August.

Maher intends to convey the petition with a formal letter to the board in time for that meeting.

He is also planning to establish a scholarship fund in Danny’s memory.
