Mahopac man struck and killed by hit-and-run-driver in front of his own house

MAHOPAC – A 61-year-old man who was approaching his vehicle parked in front of his property on South Lake Boulevard in Mahopac was struck by a hit-and-run-driver shortly after 8 p.m. Friday later died from his injuries, Carmel Town Police report.

The preliminary investigation determined the man was struck by a gray Jeep Cherokee with gold colored New York State license plates. The vehicle did not stop after it struck the victim and his car.

The Jeep has passenger side damage as a result of the crash.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to call Carmel Police detectives at 845-628-1300. Local residents near South Lake Boulevard area also asked to check any home surveillance video for the date and time of the incident.

Assisting in the investigation are the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, county Accident Reconstruction Team, and Mahopac Fre Department EMS.
