Wilkes Barre, PA man arrested on Middletown rape charge

MIDDLETOWN – New York State Police have arrested a 19-year-old Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania man on felony charges of rape and coercion, as well as misdemeanors of sexual misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child.

Cameron McEwen was arrested after an extensive investigation revealed that in December 2020 he allegedly coerced and raped a minor several times while he lived in Middletown.

On May 7, Orange County Court issued an indictment warrant for rape.

New York State Police were assisted by the Pennsylvania State Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit, the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, and Plains Township Police with the apprehension of McEwen in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

He was remanded to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility where New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation officials traveled to extradite him back to New York.

McEwen was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond pending a future court appearance.
