HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has approved a joint settlement for a smaller than requested rate increase for natural gas distribution service provided by Pike County Light & Power Co.

The commission on June 17, voted 4-0 to approve the settlement and Recommended Decision issued by PUC Administrative Law Judge Mary D. Long.

That settlement provides for a $225,000 (11.6 percent) increase in annual operating revenues for natural gas distribution, compared to the $262,000 (16 percent) increase originally requested by PCL&P.

Under the approved settlement, the average monthly bill for a residential customer using 80 CCF of natural gas will increase from $109.93 to $124.85 (13.6 percent).  The original request filed by PCL&P would have increased that same monthly bill to $128.37 (16.8 percent).

The joint settlement was submitted by PCL&P, the PUC’s independent Bureau of Investigation & Enforcement, the Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate, and the Pennsylvania Office of Small Business Advocate.

PCL&P provides natural gas service to approximately 1,200 residential and commercial customers in Pike County.
