Ulster County primary results a mixed bag

ULSTER COUNTY – Primaries for the Democratic and Working Families party lines in November were held for the county legislature’s District 2 seat, with Saugerties town board member John Schoonmaker unofficially losing the Democratic line but winning the Working Families line.  Additional races were held throughout the county, with all results considered unofficial until certified by the Board of Elections.

In the County Legislature District 2 Democratic primary, Joe Maloney received 189 votes, with Schoonmaker receiving 175, and Chris Allen garnering 89 votes.  In the Working Families race, Schoonmaker secured five votes while Jared Vanvlierden and Brandon Deweever were unable to get any votes.  In the Democratic primary for the District 6 seat, Philip Erner bested Legislature Chairman David Donaldson by a vote of 236-192.

In Kingston, Common Council Majority Leader Reynolds Scott-Childress fended off a challenger from Brad Will for the Democratic line.  Scott-Childress received 171 votes while Will captured 52.

Democratic voters in Gardiner were asked to choose two candidates to appear on the Democrat line in November.  Carol Richman received 222 votes, incumbent Warren Wiegard secured 155, and Todd Baker received 133 votes.

In Marbletown, Democrats went to the polls to decide on the Democratic Town Supervisor candidate in November.  Jacob Sherman defeated incumbent Richard Parete in a vote of 470-284.

Rochester voters were asked to decide who the Democratic candidates would be for town supervisor and two seats on the board.  Incumbent Supervisor Mike Baden handily defeated fellow board member Bea Haugen-Depuy for the supervisor position by a vote of 539-92.  The three-way race for two seats on the board has Charlotte Knapp leading with 524 votes, trailed by Michael Coleman who received 490, followed by Robert Kilpert, who secured 159 ballots.

Democrats in the Town of Saugerties were encouraged to select two candidates to appear on the Democratic line for the town board in November.  Voters have chosen Kayliegh Zaloga with 480 votes and Kevin Freeman with 438 votes.  Nina Schmidbaur garnerd 267 votes, Lauren Ruberg received 187, Timothy Scott Jr. received 183, and Diedre Miller rounded out the candidates with 77 votes.

In Woodstock, Democratic vote-casters chose current Deputy Supervisor Maria-Elena Conte with 492 votes, and Bennett Ratcliff with 473 votes, to be the Democratic candidates for the town board.  Howard Harris received 48 ballots in the race.
