KINGSTON – By Mayor Steven Noble’s proclamation, June 19 is officially Juneteenth National Freedom Day in the City of Kingston.

Harambee, the Kingston Land Trust, and My Kingston Kids held a special event to celebrate African American Independence Day on Saturday, June 19, which also served as the grand opening of the Pine Street African Burial Ground.

The block party event was filled with music, food, burial ground tours, children’s activities, and so much more. “Thank you to these wonderful community organizations for putting on this important cultural event with important historical significance,” Noble said. “I encourage you to visit the Pine Street African Burial Ground if you haven’t already. It’s a sacred space that is finally getting its rightful place in our history.”
