KINGSTON – RUPCO has been named a recipient of the 2021 U.S. Green Building Council Leadership Award for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Region.

The leadership awards recognize the leadership of individuals and organizations contributing to the creation of sustainable, healthier, equitable, and resilient building, cities and communities.

RUPCO is receiving the honor for its work on Energy Square, a LEED Platinum certified mixed-use, mixed income building in Midtown Kingston.

Of the eight regional recipients, RUPCO is the only organization being recognized for a green project that provides affordable housing.

Completed in 2020, Energy Square is the first Net-Zero for Living affordable housing in upstate New York and it has received several awards and accolades.

“We appreciate the recognition of the USGBC for Energy Square,” said RUPCO CEO Kevin O’Connor. “The award really recognizes the work our design team partners, including Dutton Architecture, Integral Building Design, Magraan Associates and Brinnier and Larios. It’s our hope that Energy Square leads the way for others to follow in achieving Net-Zero for Living.”
