NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh will be launching a series of drive-in movie experiences for residents this summer.
Each Thursday evening beginning June 24 through the end of July, at sundown (usually around 8:30 p.m.), people are invited to showings of family-friendly films in the Ann Street parking lot (116 Washington Street). People who wish to walk in are welcome to attend and will be given designated spaces for their group.
A schedule of films is as follows:
June 24 Toy Story 4
July 1 Sonic the Hedgehog
July 8 Shrek
July 15 Cool Runnings
July 22 The Wiz
July 29 Onward
Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis as the parking lot may reach capacity.
Attendees may begin to arrive to the lot by 7:30 p.m. to claim a space.
These events are contingent on weather conditions. In the case of inclement weather, the evening’s film will be canceled. Group size is dependent upon seating capacity of vehicles and walk-in group capacity is set at 8 people per group. Attendees are welcome to bring chairs.
In addition to the movie series, the city has launched other summer recreation opportunities for residents. The Planning & Development Department is coordinating the Slow Streets initiative, a pattern of selected street closures in each ward to give residents access to expanded outdoor space right outside their front doors, as well as the Summer Outdoor Fitness classes, which provides outdoor Pilates, Zumba and Yoga classes free of charge at the amphitheater in Downing Park.
Also, the city’s RISE grant made funding available for groups to facilitate local community cleanups. Learn more on the City of Newburgh website at www.cityofnewburgh-ny.gov.
This film festival is funded through the City of Newburgh Community Development Block Grant program.
