BEACON – The City of Beacon has already closed down one of its three firehouses  Beacon Engine – as it moves to the goal of consolidation to just one – Tompkins Hose in the central firehouse adjacent to city hall.

When the city shuts down the Mase Hook and Ladder station on central Main Street, there will be the need to construct just one additional truck bay at the main firehouse, said Mayor Lee Kyriacou.

“We identified just a tiny sliver of property from the church next door and we are working with them to acquire and that will allow us to build a bay right next to the existing ones and that will make it less than half the price of what they were originally thought the cost would be,” he said.

That estimated price tag is under $10 million, said the mayor.
