Second arrest made in attempted murder of teenager

POUGHKEEPSIE – A second arrest has been made in the February 13, 2020 shooting of a 17-year-old youth during an attempted robbery in an alley near 71 Garden Street in the City of Poughkeepsie at 1:05 a.m.  The teen was shot at several times and struck once.

City of Newburgh resident John Peterson, 22, was arrested on Friday, June 11, in Poughkeepsie, on a grand jury indictment charging him with the felonies of attempted murder, assault, robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon.

He is being held in the Dutchess County Jail pending a future appearance in Dutchess County Court.

A weapon was discovered during a police search of the vehicle Patterson was traveling in on Friday.

The arrest and search was made in the parking lot of a North Grand Avenue car wash.

City detectives with evidence, including a weapon, discovered during the search of the vehicle.

On March 30, 2021 Carl Hannans, a 21-year-old City of Poughkeepsie resident was arrested and charged in connection with this shooting. He was charged with felonies of attempted murder, attempted robbery, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, and the misdemeanor of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Hannans was arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $10,000 cash or  $20,000 bond. He bonded out of jail the following day on Thursday, April 1, 2021.  While out on bond, Hannans was arrested for another Poughkeepsie murder on April 28.
