COLDENHAM – A House fire in the Coldenham area of the Town of Montgomery Thursday morning claimed the life of a man, and police are considering the case an arson/homicide.

State arson officials are conducting an investigation into the cause.

The fire was called in at 6:50 a.m. with Montgomery Town Police and Coldenham firefighters responding to a house 22 Barron Road.

Two residents escaped but firefighters located one man inside. He was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh where he died, police said.

The cause and circumstances of the fire are under investigation; however, law enforcement sources said it is being investigated as an arson-related homicide.

The Coldenham Fire Department was assisted by several other departments at the scene.
