MONTICELLO – A 50-year-old Liberty man has been convicted of murder by his guilty plea in the death of a woman with whom he had children in common.

Cedric Clarkson, 50, fatally struck 30-year-old Jailyn Flecha on the night of November 29, 2020, at 40 Liberty Street in the Village of Liberty.

Sullivan County District Attorney Meagan Galligan’s office will recommend a sentence of 25 years to life in prison, while Judge James Farrell has committed to a sentence of no less than 20 years to life in prison when sentenced on July 29.

“The loss of Jailyn to her children, family and loved ones will live on forever,” said Galligan. “While no sentence can make up for the loss our community has suffered at this defendant’s hands, we hope this conviction can bring some measure to closure to Jailyn’s family.”
