POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie is getting a substantial boost to the sidewalk repair initiative with help from Albany. On Thursday, Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D-104) presented a check for $125,000 for the project to city leaders.

Jacobson made the announcement at City Hall with Mayor Rob Rolison and members of the Poughkeepsie Common Council and County Legislator Randall Johnson.

Jacobson said, “The state of our infrastructure has always been a priority for me. Good sidewalks are one of the keys to quality of life in all neighborhoods. Poorly maintained sidewalks are bad for residents and businesses and they put pedestrians at risk. This makes them particularly important in the City of Poughkeepsie, where there are no school buses and many students walk to school.”

“We live and work in a walkable, compact city,” said Mayor Rolison. “We encourage people to walk as much as possible, and having good, safe sidewalks is essential to foster that goal.  This money is a fantastic boost to the administration’s sidewalk repair program.”

Councilmember Lorraine Johnson was called the funding “vital”.  “Assemblyman Jacobson listens to our concerns.  I’ve been fighting to get our sidewalks fixed and Mr. Jacobson listened.  Now we can fix things up!”
