NEW ROCHELLE – Police officers from New Rochelle were able to rescue a local man who was out kayaking on Sunday afternoon in Long Island Sound.

The man reported he was in distress as his craft was being swept away further out into the Sound by the strong winds and current.

New Rochelle Police launched their Marine I fire boat and were able bring the man safely on it. He refused medical attention and was transported back to Harbor Unit Based.
