Middletown fire leaves eight homeless

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS – An early morning fire on Sunday destroyed a home at 217 Watkins Avenue in the Washington Heights area leaving eight people homeless.

The blaze in the 2 ½ story structure was called in at about 1:50 a.m. with several Middletown area fire departments responding.

The Red Cross provided immediate emergency aid to the residents for shelter, food, and clothing for the five adults and three children, ages three, three, and two.

There were no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
