CARMEL – Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) did not mince words during a town hall session in Carmel on Sunday when a woman said Donald Trump won the election and that those who have been arrested for their actions in the January 6 insurrection on the U.S. Capitol have only been charged with illegal entry.

Maloney called the woman’s views and language “toxic” and challenged her interpretation on the attack.

“Coming through a window and violently attacking the House Chamber where I was, ma’am, and there was a man with zip ties, and bear spray and weapons, beating officers who were in hand-to-hand combat with them for four hours. And, if you are telling me that the security officer who was standing at that door alone when they are literally coming through the windows and he has 40 members of Congress – both parties by the way – he is trying to evacuate out the one exit remaining. I was 20 feet down that hallway. I know what I am talking about,” he said.

Maloney also addressed constituent questions about federal pandemic relief aid.

The Carmel event was on of four the congressman held in the district over the weekend.
