POUGHKEEPSIE – A 46-year-old man said to have mental health issues escaped from MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie on Friday night and his family and police agencies are searching for the man.

Andrew “Andy” Neiman was taken to the hospital by his sister on Friday morning at around 3:30 a.m.  He was observed by hospital staff in the emergency department.  They called the sister, Emily Asher-Abramson, to say that he was going to be admitted to the facility’s psychiatric unit.  At 9:30 on Friday night, Asher-Abramson received a call from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police informing her that her brother had snuck out of the hospital.  “The hospital never called to tell me that he was missing, and that is irresponsible,” said the distraught sister.

A missing person report has been filed with several police agencies.  Mr. Neiman is described as a white male, five-feet, 10-inches tall, short dark hair, and an unshaven face.  He is wearing a tan bathing suit, possibly a hospital scrub-type shirt, and has no shoes. wallet, identification, or his medications.

Asher-Abramson thinks that her brother might be trying to return to her residence in Ulster County.

Individuals who may have seen Neiman are asked to call the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office at 845-338-3640, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police at 845-485-3666, or the City of Poughkeepsie police at 845-451-4000.
