Fire levels barn, other structure in Red Hook

RED HOOK – Fire that was reported just before 9 p.m. Sunday brought out some 40 firefighters from a number of area departments as flames fully engulfed a barn and other structures nearby as well as several propane storage tanks at A-W Coon & Sons at 412 Route 199 in Red Hook.

It took firefighters about 45 minutes to knock down the fire with overhaul and cleanup, including the use of a backhoe, by 12:30 Monday morning.

Firefighters from Red Hook, Tivoli, Rhinebeck, Milan, and Livingston were called to the scene with Pine Plains, Hillside, and Germantown on standby.

One firefighter was transported to Northern Dutchess Hospital and later released.

The Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division is investigating the cause of the fire.

Assisting at the scene were Red Hook Police, State Police, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, and Northern Dutchess Paramedics. Dutchess County 911 provided communications and coordination throughout the fire.
