Man charged with summer 2020 Kingston murder

KINGSTON – A 38-year-old Town of Ulster man was indicted for murder by an Ulster County grand jury in connection with the July 11, 2020 shooting death of a man inside a residence in St. James Street in the City of Kingston.

The indictment alleges that Raymond Snyder of Route 28 shot 47-year-old Romero Underwood to death.

Blood droplets on a wall inside the residence were analyzed for DNA and the profile matched Snyder’s.

He was also charged with two counts each of burglary and robbery.

If convicted, Snyder faces up to 25 years to life in prison on the murder charge.

The investigation is continuing and further charges against other individuals are possible, the district attorney’s office said.

“In addition to this important indictment, in the past six months our office has indicted three persons for murder in the second degree, one person for manslaughter in the second degree, two persons for attempted murder in the second degree, two persons for predatory sexual assault against a child, two persons for rape in the third degree, three persons for criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, one person for strangulation in the second degree, two persons for assault in the second degree, one person for arson in the first degree, two persons for burglary in the first degree, and one person for robbery in the first degree,” said District Attorney David Clegg. “We continue to prioritize cases involving violent crime and risks to public safety.”
