WASHINGTON – Republicans in the House of Representatives Wednesday stripped Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R, Wyo.) from her party leadership role because she would not waiver from her insistence that the GOP tell the truth about the 2020 election and the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

Congressman Mondaire Jones (D, NY-17), a freshman lawmaker from Nyack, was highly critical of the action.

“The civil war within the Republican Party is complete. In voting to remove Liz Cheney from their leadership, House Republicans have taken the unprecedented step of silencing and disavowing one of the few members of their party with the basic moral courage to call out the Big Lie and publicly admit that the 2020 election was safe, fair, and legitimate,” Jones said. “There can no longer be any doubt that the GOP is the party of Donald Trump, white nationalism, and QAnon conspiracy theorists — a party of sycophants subversive to the rule of law and hostile to democracy itself.”

Cheney, meanwhile, said she “will do everything I can to ensure that the former president never gets anywhere near the Oval Office. We have seen the danger that he continues to provoke with his language. We have seen his lack of commitment and dedication to the Constitution.”
