NEW CITY – One of the teens injured in a three-car crash in the area of 256 Congers Road in New City late Thursday night has died.

Clarkstown Police said a 16-year-old boy in a car driven by Alan Mendoza, 18, died Friday afternoon. An injured 17-year-old girl was in stable condition in an area hospital, police said.

Mendoza has been charged with felonies of aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, manslaughter, two counts of assault, vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, as well as reckless driving.

Mendoza was remanded to the Rockland County Jail.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Clarkstown Police Detective Bureau at 845-639-5840.

This is the second accident of its kind in Rockland County within the past two weeks.  The first was in Montebello in the Town of Ramapo involving Suffern High School students. A teen girl was killed in that accident.

“Clarkstown suffered a grievous tragedy late last night with a now fatal car accident involving three young people,” said Town Supervisor George Hoehmann. “This is every parent’s worst nightmare. A senseless preventable tragedy that has taken the life of a 16-year-old; left another in serious condition and forever altered the lives of many families. Our deepest condolences to the families involved. I ask all Clarkstown residents to again demonstrate their compassion by supporting these families in practical ways and lift them up with your prayers in the coming difficult days.”

Hoehmann said he spoke with Schools Superintendent Martin Cox and pledged the support of the town government in any way needed. The school district has made grief counselors available and will continue to do so in the coming days.
