POUGHKEEPSIE – A 20-year-old Poughkeepsie man is in custody of the State Police at the Troop F barracks in Highland after he crashed the stolen car he was driving in the City of Poughkeepsie.

The vehicle rolled over several times before hitting a house.

The driver, Anthony Ermo, 20, of Poughkeepsie, was transported to MidHudson Regional hospital with minor injuries and later taken into custody by State Police.

His passenger, Denzel Williams, 28, from the Town of Lloyd, suffered internal injuries and was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.

The incident began around 2 a.m. on Friday, May 7 when troopers on patrol on Route 9W in the Town of Highland spotted a 2005 Nissan Sentra violating vehicle and traffic laws. The troopers initiated a traffic stop and as they were approaching the vehicle to talk to the driver, he sped away over the Mid-Hudson bridge and into the City of Poughkeepsie where he crashed into the home near South White Street and Church Street.

Both men had to be extricated from the car.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, police said.
