HUNTER – A 36-year-old Yonkers man who was reported missing on April 27, was found dead at the base of Kaaterskill Falls in the Town of Hunter on April 30, State Police said.

Jesse Ritholz was reported missing by a family member. He was supposed to come to their home for a visit on April 24, but didn’t show up. His parents went to his apartment on April 27 and observed everything appeared normal.

Investigators learned Ritholz rented a BMZ 330 on April 22. On April 30, Troop F State Police found the vehicle in the Laurel House Road parking lot for Kaaterskill Falls.

Uniformed troopers, State Police Aviation, Underwater Recovery Team, and the Troop K Bloodhound began to search for Ritholz with assistance from the Greene County Sheriff’s patrol units and their dive team and State Forest Rangers.

Ritholz was found dead in the water at the base of the falls. His body was recovered by the State Police Underwater Recovery Team and transported to Ellis Hospital by the Greene County Coroner’s Office.

The preliminary cause of death has been listed as head injuries from a fall onto rocks.

The investigation is continuing.
