RHINEBECK – Businesswoman and farmer Jamie Cheney of Rhinebeck, Monday, announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for the 41st State Senate District. Republican Sue Serino of Hyde Park currently represents the district.

State legislature elections are not until November of next year.

“As we’ve watched our community struggle throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, it is clear that Upstate needs leadership and investment to recover and continue building our economy,” Cheney said. “As a small business owner, farmer, and mother to young children, I understand firsthand the hurdles so many families in our community faces this past year as they navigated the uncertainties of the pandemic, and dealt simultaneously working remotely and learning from home.”

Cheney and her husband run Falcon’s Fields, a 60-head farm in Rhinebeck. She also founded Prokanga, a recruiting firm and certified B Corporation (a company that balances profit and purpose), focused on creating flexile roles for working parents. She continues to operate both businesses.
