Port Jervis Police arrest two on drug charges

PORT JERVIS – Two men were arrested by Port Jervis Police on drug charges in separate incidents.

On April 29, city police and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group executed a search warrant at 16 Delaware Street and seized 83 decks of heroin/fentanyl, 24 vials of crack cocaine with an aggregate weight of four grams, five grams of MDMA, $19,900 in cash, digital scales and packaging materials.

Detectives arrested Luis Diaz,41, on two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police alleged Diaz possessed the narcotics with intent to sell them.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail without bail.

On April 30, Port Jervis Police, assisted by the sheriff’s office Special Operations Group, executed a search warrant at 137 East Main Street, apartment 3, in the city.

A search yielded 123 decks of heroin/fentanyl, cash, digital scales and packaging material.

Dashell Powlus, 24, of that address was charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance, and tampering with physical evidence, as well as a misdemeanor of criminally using drug paraphernalia.

At the time of his arrest, Powlus was under post-release supervision by the State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Division of Parole for a prior conviction of possession of drugs.

He was remanded to the county jail without bail.
