OLIVEBRIDGE – As snow fell on the late April day Thursday, Earth Day was marked at the Ashokan Center in Olivebridge by Ulster County Executive Patrick Ryan’s unveiling of his Green New Deal for the county.

The report considers over 30 goals and targets to make the county the first in the state and among the first in the nation with a comprehensive green new deal plan.

“We have a huge opportunity and an obligation to not go back to the old ways, to not go back to our economy that was really extractive and damaging, not just to our environment, but to our own people and to actually lean into an approach, a green new deal that is a positive and renewing approach to our economy and our people and not an extractive one, and that is really what this plan gets at,” he said.

The plan lays out three areas to be addressed – the transition to clean energy, building the equitable green economy, and conserving our natural resources and building resilience.
