Unemployment gradually comes down

ALBANY – While March unemployment figures in the Hudson Valley remain higher than those of one year ago, they are gradually coming down.

Sullivan County had the highest rate in March at 6.7 percent, up from 5.0 percent in March 2020.

Columbia County, at 5.3 percent joblessness, had the lowest rate in the region in March, compared to 4.0 one year earlier.

Unemployment in Greene County stood at 6.5 percent in March, up from 5.3 percent in March 2020.

Ulster and Westchester counties each stood at 6.2 percent unemployment this past March – in March 2020 Ulster County stood at 4.4 percent while Westchester was at 4.2 percent.

Orange County unemployment in March 2021 was 6.1 percent, compared to 4.3 percent one year earlier.

Dutchess stood at 5.8 percent, up from 4.1 percent.

Rockland County had 5.6 percent unemployment in March, compared to 3.9 percent one year earlier and Putnam stood at 5.5 percent, up from 4.3 percent in March 2020.
