Traffic stop yields gun, drugs, in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE – A traffic stop on Division Street in New Rochelle for a vehicle with a fraudulent temporary tag resulted in the arrest of the driver.

New Rochelle Police stopped the car around 7 p.m. on Friday, April 16.

The driver, Kevin Lopez, 35, of Mamaroneck, was found in possession of a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun hidden under the driver’s seat as well as cocaine in the center console.

He was also driving with a suspended license.

Lopez was charged with possession of a forged instrument, criminal possession of a weapon – a loaded firearm; criminal possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated unlicensed operation.
