Target shooting teen strikes passing vehicle

PATTERSON – State Police have charged an 18-year-old with target shooting downrange toward Route 22 in the Town of Patterson on April 16 when three bullets struck the driver’s side door of a passing SUV.

It happened on Friday when the driver told police they heard three or four loud pop sounds and when they got home, discovered the bullet holes in the door.

Investigation found the teen shooting with an unsafe downrange toward the road hitting the SUV as it drove by.

The shooter, whose name police did not make public, was charged with felonies of criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and prohibited use of a weapon, as well as a misdemeanor of illegal discharge of a weapon.

He was remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 secure bond pending a future court appearance.
