ELLENVILLE – An Ellenville man was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail following a physical domestic dispute.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office charged Charles McCarthy, 51, with criminal contempt and aggravated family offense, both as felonies, and misdemeanors of criminal contempt, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal obstruction of breathing. He was also charged with a violation of harassment.

Deputies responded to a residence in the Town of Wawarsing at 9:45 p.m. on April 16 for a report of a physical domestic dispute.

It was alleged that McCarthy was involved in a verbal dispute with a victim that turned physical when he struck the woman and placed his hands around her throat.

It was also discovered that McCarthy violated an active order of protection in favor of the woman and a child.
