TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department will be participating in the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee “No Empty Chair” enforcement campaign, beginning on Monday, April 19. and running through April 23. The campaign seeks to raise awareness of highway dangers during prom and graduation season and to ensure there are “no empty chairs” at proms and graduations this year.
Police Captain Joseph Cavaliere said that beginning on Monday, the town police will be focusing enforcement efforts on speeding in school zones. The captain stressed that drivers need to be aware that pedestrian foot traffic is heavier in school zone areas and that reduced speed zones work to ensure motorists are more aware of their surroundings, as well as have a better reaction time.
