NEWBURGH – The Memorial Day parade is one of the hallmark events of the year in the City of Newburgh where hundreds of participants march from Upper Broadway down to Washington’s Headquarters for a brief ceremony.

People from Newburgh and beyond normally line Broadway to watch the fire trucks, antique cars, marching bands and soldiers as they are greeted

But, for the second year, City Manager Joseph Donat has cancelled the event because of COVID-19.

He has also cancelled the Newburgh Illuminated Festival, that would typically be held later in the year and highland everything the city has to offer in a one-day weekend event that spans entire city.

Despite St. Patrick’s Day being celebrated during normal times on March17, the annual Mid-Hudson St. Patrick’s Parade this year will be held in Greenwood Lake on September 19.

Kevin Cummings, the longest reigning grand marshal will once again lead the parade.

“The pandemic has been a burden to us all, and celebrating the Patron Saint of Ireland with us on September 19, 2021 is a sorely needed remedy,” said Kevin Strommer, president of the Mid-Hudson St. Patrick’s Parade Committee.
