LIBERTY – Scott Kinne has spent his entire career in law enforcement working in the Liberty Village Police Department.

Wednesday was his last day on the job as he has retired.

Kinne is a local boy having been raised in Liberty.

He started his career as a patrolman and worked his way through the ranks to finally be named chief, a post he held for the last nine of his 27-years on the force.

“I think I was fortunate in that I grew up here, went to school here. So, I was kind of known,” he said. “It’s funny. When you become a police officer and you respond to a call, maybe at the school and the teacher says, ‘Wait a minute, I taught you in ninth grade,’ because they remembered who I was. So, I think that I helped how I got along with the community here.”

Kinne is not leaving law enforcement, though. He will be transitioning over to becoming an investigator in the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office.
