KINGSTON – An Ulster County Court jury of eight men and four women has convicted an Ellenville man of first-degree rape and other charges in connection with a September 8, 2019 attack on a woman in her home.

Andrew Sturgill, 32, of Ellenville was found guilty of rape, burglary and sexual abuse following a more than one week trial.

He was accused of unlawfully entering the victim’s Ellenville home and having sex with her while she was incapacitated.

When sentenced in June, Sturgill faces up to 25 years in state prison with up to 20 years of post-release supervision. He will be required to register as a sex offender for life.

The case was heard before Acting Ulster County Court Judge James Farrell of Sullivan County.

Ulster District Attorney David Clegg noted this was the first jury trial conducted in county court since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
